Displaying video feeds is the most effective and efficient way to decrease perceived waiting time! Whether you operate digital signage in hospitality, retail, or healthcare establishments, all of them have something in common: lines. Avoid boredom with the most attractive content there is available online without the need to produce it yourself!
Use an RSS App specifically for media to rotate images or videos from RSS Feeds.
RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication” and essentially is a format websites use to deliver new content. There are two Media RSS Apps in the OnSign App library which allow you to easily display regularly updated media content on your screens.
Learn how to add RSS videos to your Content:
- In your OnSign TV account go to the App library (Creating an App).
- From the pop-up window, choose the “News & RSS Feeds” category of the sidebar menu.
- Select the “Media RSS App" or the “Cycling Media RSS App” and fill out the following fields:
- "Name" the App.
- Paste the video RSS "Feed URL". You can find RSS video feeds by television broadcasters, newspapers, and RSS service websites. For this tutorial, for instance, we used a sample RSS video feed from BBC world news.
- With the “Media RSS App" you additionally determine for how long each media is shown. The “Cycling Media RSS App” rotates through the RSS feed and only shows one media at a time for the duration of the app.
- Check the “display only media currently on the feed” box.
- Click “Save”. The video feed is now available in your Content.
- By default the App will play 10 seconds. Adjust the duration in the Campaign timeline (image below), in a Playlist or directly in the Content in Player.
Media RSS Apps
- Media RSS: Determine for how long each media shall play. This App will display all media in a row, each of them for the time you set. The App duration has to be adjusted directly in the timeline, the playlist or on the published Content in Player.
If you choose 10 seconds for the media duration and the App plays only for 10 seconds, it will play the same first item of the RSS feed for 10 seconds each time until the RSS feed changes. If you choose 10 seconds for the media duration and the App plays 20 seconds, you will see the first two items of the RSS feed for 10 seconds each. - Cycling Media RSS: This App rotates through different media from the RSS feed each time the App appears on screen, but only plays one single item for the whole duration of the app.
