Installing Samsung E-Paper

OnSign is compatible with Samsung E-Paper, model EMDX. In the following you learn how to install the OnSign TV app on Samsung E-Paper.

Requirements

Network Requirement: Have a Wi-Fi network.
Installation via Mobile App: At present ONLY Android devices (on version 10 & above) are supported for the Mobile App. To receive the APK file, please contact your local Samsung pre-sales team.

Adding the Device via the Mobile App

There are two methods to add an E-Paper device with the Mobile App.

Method 1 - Click the “Add Device” button on the Mobile app home screen
Method 2 - Click the (+) icon on the Mobile app home screen

Adding the Device Method 1

Open the Mobile App and click the “Add Device” button. Scan the QR code shown on the E-Paper device, then jump ahead to step 4 (Network Configuration).

Adding the Device Method 2

Open the Mobile App and Click the “+” icon at the top-right.

Choose the “Pair” option.

Enter the pairing code which is shown on the E- paper device.

Network Configuration on the Mobile App

Choose a Wi-Fi network.

Enter the Wi-Fi password.

Accept the Terms and Conditions. Do not "skip”.

Device Configuration on the Mobile App

Choose “Manual Setup”.

Select the device "Orientation”, portrait or landscape mode.

Set the Device “Sleep Time”.
With this setting you choose how long the display will stay ON before turning into sleep mode when inactive.
*Select “Always On” as sleep mode is currently not supported.

Set the device security PIN.

Set the Device “Refresh Time”.
For panel protection, the content will be refreshed at the designated content refresh time every day.

Select a “Device Name”.

Set the Device “Date & Time”.

Turn “Network Standby” on or off.
If “Network Standby” is turned on, the device may consume additional power.

Install the OnSign TV app by choosing the “Custom” option when selecting a content player.
The player installation URLs are the same ones we use for other Tizen devices. Depending on the device orientation they are:
1. For landscape mode: https://tizen.onsign.tv
2. For portrait mode: https://tizen.onsign.tv/portrait

Confirm with the “Install” button. The OnSign TV app will be successfully installed on your E-Paper device.

Note: On E-Paper, content should not be shorter than 2 mins. The panel itself takes around 2 mins to update an image on screen. These displays are designed to replace printed boards, with very few updates throughout the day.
