On-demand is a great way to trigger a specific piece of Content only when needed!
This feature is ideal for displaying emergency messages, impromptu sales, and any type of live content you would like to pop up on your screens!
There are two ways to set the trigger, either during publishing or through the Triggers and Interactivity feature. Either way, you will be able to see the trigger in both, the Content in Player and the Triggers and Interactivity, menus of the Player.
We will set up the on-demand content during publishing.
On the Content page of your OnSign account, right-click on the Content you wish to set up to play on-demand, and select “Publish”.
Follow the standard process to publish your content.
When you come to How to Play It, change the selection from “Play on Primary Loop” to “Play On-Demand”.
In addition to triggering the on-demand Content on screen, OnSign allows to set up a redirect URL to be loaded on the browser which makes the on-demand content request. A great use case for this is to create a QR Code with the on-demand URL, so once the code is scanned the browser, for example of a smartphone, will get redirected to the configured Redirect to URL.
Once published, your on-demand Content will show in each Player's published Triggered Content, as well as Triggers and Interactivity menu.
Triggering on-demand Content from Player Content
With these few steps you trigger Content on a Player from your web account.
Click on the Players tab on the left-hand side.
Select the Player where the Content has been published to.
Select “Content in Players” from the sidebar menu.
Find the on-demand Content within Triggered Content and click on the play icon on the right-side.Note: Triggering on-demand Content on Player Groups follows a similar procedure: select the target Player Group where the Content has been published. Click on "Content in Group". All other steps are the same.
A pop-up window will ask how many times in a row you want the Content to be displayed on the Player before resuming the normal playback loop. If you want it to be displayed infinitely, write “0”. Then you have to actively stop the playback, like shown further below or in this tutorial.
Triggering on-demand Content by URL
When an on-demand content is published, a special link is created which can be used from anywhere to trigger it.
To obtain the on-demand link, click on the "Chain link icon" on the right-side.
This will open a pop-up where you can copy the on-demand URL:
The on-demand URL accepts two parameters:
Queue - This will only play the on-demand Content after the currently playing Content has finished. Here is an example of how to use the queue action: https://XXXXXXXXX/DJXzrLqMuQ9N8YDgnWeS?action=queue
Repeat - This will set how many times the on-demand Content should be repeated. If repeat is =0, the on-demand Content will be repeated till the end of day, or until a "Stop On-demand" is sent. Syntax example: https://XXXXXXXXX/DJXzrLqMuQ9N8YDgnWeS?repeat=0
Stop on-demand Playback
Whenever you want to pause the Content playback, press the blue “Stop On Demand Playback” button in the Triggered Content header or use a the stop URL from the expandable menu.
