If your screens are on the move and the location around your Content matters for context, GeoRegion is the tool for you.
We have shown you how to set up GeoRegions in a previous tutorial for reference. In this tutorial you now learn how to use them.
GeoRegions can be used in two fundamentally different ways:
Restricting content to only play within a defined GeoRegion - OR -
Triggering content to play at the moment of entering or exiting a GeoRegion
Both ways can be used in combination.
Restriction by GeoRegion
A restriction will not immediately make the content play the moment the restriction is met. Content restricted to play within a defined GeoRegion will play as soon as it is its turn in the content loop. From then on, it will play each time it is it's turn in the content loop while still being inside the GeoRegion.
Follow the standard process to publish your content.
When you come to Playback Restrictions, change the setting from “Play with no restriction” to “Play only when…”.
A drop down menu will open. Choose Location. We prefer Logic Mode to set restrictions because it has more options, but you can just as well use Visual Mode. In Visual Mode, switch to “Play only on players inside ANY of these locations”.
Coming back to Logic Mode. If you have previously set up your GeoRegions, type or select the GeoRegion(s) where the content is allowed to play. Click on the orange “Done” button or on the white space around the GeoRegion selector.
For “How to Play It”, keep the setting as “Play on Primary Loop”.
Finish with the orange “Publish” button on the bottom-right.
Trigger by GeoRegion
If you want content to play immediately when entering or exiting a GeoRegion, then you will use a trigger.
There are two ways to set the trigger, either during publishing or through the Triggers and Interactivity feature. Either way, you will be able to see the trigger in both, the Content in Player and the Triggers and Interactivity, menus of the Player.
We will set the trigger during publishing.
Follow again the standard process to publish your content.
When you come to How to Play It, change the selection from “Play on Primary Loop” to “Play When Crossing a GeoFence”.
Select whether to Trigger the playback when entering or exiting the Region. If you have previously set up your GeoRegions, select the GeoRegion(s). Otherwise you can Manage your GeoRegions.
Finish with the orange “Publish” button on the bottom-right.
Ready. The next time your player enters Region 1, the content will play right away.
Your triggered content can be managed under the Triggered Content header in the Content in Player menu.
Or as a trigger in the Triggers and Interactivity menu of the Player.
Removing it in one of the two will remove it on both.
