Using Nexmosphere

Nexmosphere produces interactive sensors and controllers designed for digital signage and retail experiences. Its devices — RFID readers, PIR motion sensors, capacitive bars, push buttons, and more — connect to media players via USB or RS-232 and send event strings that the player can act on in real time.

How It Works with OnSign

Nexmosphere controllers communicate with OnSign Players through the serial port (RS-232 or USB-to-serial). Once the serial port is configured on the Player, OnSign parses incoming sensor data and exposes it through the Local API. You can then create interactivity rules that trigger content based on sensor events, such as playing a video when an object is picked up or switching a campaign when a PIR sensor detects motion.

The setup involves two main steps, both covered in the platform-specific guides below:

  • Hardware connection — connecting the Nexmosphere controller to the Player device.
  • Serial port configuration — registering the port in OnSign and setting an alias.
