How to create Players in bulk using CSV

Some deployments require registering a large number of players at once. Instead of configuring each device individually, OnSign allows you to create multiple players simultaneously using a CSV file. This feature is designed for registering a batch of devices at once, making large-scale deployments faster and easier than configuring each device individually.

How It Works

Each row in the CSV file represents a single player. During the import process, you will map the CSV columns to the corresponding player fields required by OnSign.

Players created through this method are added in a detached state. This means the player records are created in your account but are not yet associated with a physical device.

When a compatible device comes online and attempts to connect, OnSign automatically matches it with the corresponding detached player record. The association is typically completed within approximately five minutes, allowing for rapid provisioning of large-scale deployments without requiring manual configuration on each device.

Creating Players from a CSV File

  1. Go to the Players page and click Setup Player.
  2. Click You can also create players in bulk from a CSV file.
  1. Select the CSV file containing your player information.

Note: Sample CSV file containing only the required fields (Player Name and Player Serial Number). The serial numbers shown in the example above are provided for illustrative purposes only and should be replaced with the actual serial numbers of your devices.

  1. Map the columns in your CSV file to the corresponding player fields:
  • Player Name (required) — The display name assigned to the player. If a player with the same name already exists in your account, the row will be skipped.
  • Serial Number (required) — The device serial number (SN). Players created with a serial number will automatically attach to a device when the OnSign Player app starts on hardware reporting the same serial number. If a player with the same serial number already exists in your account, the row will be skipped.
  • Additional Fields (optional) — You can also map columns to custom player attributes created in your account. This allows player metadata to be imported and assigned automatically during the registration process.
  1. Click Create Players to start the import process.

Reminder: Once the import is complete, the players will be created in a detached state and will automatically associate with their respective devices when they come online.

Important: Players created through CSV import are not automatically assigned a license. After the import process is complete, manually assign the appropriate license to each player before deploying or activating the devices.

Troubleshooting

A player does not connect automatically within the 5-minute window: Restart the player manually and ensure it has an active internet connection. Once the OnSign Player app launches, the platform will attempt to match the device serial number with the corresponding detached player record and complete the attachment process automatically.
