Working Schedule

The Working Schedule is a player setting that defines when a player plays content during the week. The schedule grid displays all seven days side by side, and each day’s active window appears as a block that shows its start and end time. Outside of its scheduled hours, a player can keep playing content, turn its screen black, turn its screen on or off, or turn itself off, depending on the hardware.

Point to a block to reveal its edit and delete icons. Use these icons, or drag a block’s edges, to adjust the schedule for that day.

Resize a block

Use this procedure to change when a block starts or ends without opening a dialog.

  1. Point to the top or bottom edge of a block until the resize cursor appears.
  2. Drag the edge up or down. Dragging the top edge changes the start time, and dragging the bottom edge changes the end time. OnSign shows the new time next to the pointer while you drag.

Set a precise time range

  1. Click the edit icon on a block. The Edit The Block Range Time dialog opens.
  2. Set the From and To times.
  3. Click Confirm. OnSign saves the new range and updates the block. Alternatively, click Cancel to close the dialog without saving your changes.

Remove a block

  1. Click the delete icon on a block. OnSign removes the block, and the day shows no scheduled window.

Apply a template

  1. Click Use a Template.
  2. Select Every day, all day, Weekdays, all day, Weekends, all day, or No Schedule. OnSign applies the selected pattern to all seven days immediately.

Undo unsaved changes

OnSign displays Revert next to Use a Template whenever the schedule has unsaved changes.

  1. Click Revert. OnSign discards the unsaved changes and restores the schedule to its last saved state.

Outside-of-hours actions

Outside of a player’s scheduled hours, OnSign can apply one of the following actions. OnSign shows only the actions that the player’s hardware supports.

  • Keep playing content. The player ignores the schedule and keeps playing.
  • Turn screen black. The player displays a black image on the screen. This does not turn off the Player.
  • Turn screen on or off. This changes only the display’s power state. It does not change the player’s power state.
  • Turn the player off. The player shuts down. Almost every player supports this action.
  • Turn the player on. Turns the player back on. Only select hardware supports this action, listed in the next section.

This setting is located directly below the Working Schedule section.

Turn the player off

Turning the player off shuts the player down. Support for this action, and for automatically turning the player back on, depends on the hardware.

Important: If the player restarted recently, or if the working hours rules changed while the player was running, OnSign delays the power-off command by 15 minutes. This prevents a misconfiguration from shutting down the player before it can fetch the correct settings.

OnSign shuts down the player automatically, but turning it back on may require a manual action, because some hardware does not support automatic startup. Check your hardware’s documentation to confirm.
