In a large operation with a large user base, individual users may be tasked with only a very narrow range of allowed actions. Let's take this scenario: you have several users working on a Campaign, but each user is responsible only for one particular screen division and nothing else. Follow these steps to limit permissions to only their particular screen division.
There is no dedicated permission system to limit Timelines to individual users. As a workaround, we use Playlists.
Setup requirements
- 1 Campaign with a divided Layout, already published to a Player
- 2 Playlists, one in each Timeline
- 2 restricted Users
We base everything off a Campaign which has a divided layout. In each of the Timelines of the Campaign we place a Playlist. These Playlists hold the content of each of the layout divisions.
Publish the Campaign to a Player.
We have two or more restricted users. If there are no additional users besides yourself associated with your account yet, read here how to create new users and what a restricted user is.
- Insert each Playlist in the corresponding Timeline of the Campaign. With Playlists in a Campaign, we use a Variable duration. One Timeline will be the primary Timeline, shown in yellow.
- For each of the Playlists, give permission to Modify to the restricted user who should work on it. Refer to this tutorial for a a detailed explanation about permissions. Permissions can't be set from within the Campaign. Go to your Content library to set permissions.
Each user can now edit only their portion of the screen.
Note: Naturally, the two Playlists will not have the exact same duration. The longer Playlist will be the primary Timeline. Set the shorter Timeline to loop.
