Public or unattended deployments often need to keep an Android device locked to the OnSign Player, without users reaching the launcher, settings, or other apps. Unlike Windows and Linux, Kiosk Mode on Android depends on the SPM being installed and configured first, it's not a setting you can turn on from the Dashboard alone.
How It Works
The SPM is what gives OnSign the system-level privileges an Android device needs to lock itself into Kiosk Mode. Without the correct SPM installed and configured as Device Owner, the Kiosk Mode setting won't be available in your Player settings.
Note: If you haven't installed the SPM yet, start with What is the SPM - Signage Platform Module to find out which version your device needs, then follow How to Install the SPM (or the Samsung-specific guide, if your device is a Samsung) to install it and configure Device Owner.
Enabling Kiosk Mode
- Install the correct SPM for your device and configure it as Device Owner. See What is the SPM - Signage Platform Module to choose the right version, and How to Install the SPM for the installation steps.
- On your Dashboard, open the Players tab and select the target Player.
- Scroll to the Lock password field and set a password.

- Save the changes to activate Kiosk Mode.
Exiting Kiosk Mode
To exit the Player app, click 7 times in the lower-left corner of the screen, then enter the Lock password when prompted.
Troubleshooting
- The Lock password field isn't available on the Player settings. Likely cause: the SPM isn't installed, or isn't configured as Device Owner. Resolution: install the correct SPM for your device and confirm Device Owner is set before trying again.
- Clicking 7 times doesn't exit the app. Likely cause: clicking the wrong corner, on Android it's the lower-left corner, not the lower-right. Resolution: click specifically in the lower-left corner of the screen.
- Kiosk Mode was working, but stopped after a device reset or SPM reinstall. Likely cause: Device Owner is cleared by a factory reset and needs to be reconfigured. Resolution: reinstall the SPM and set Device Owner again, then re-enter the Lock password.
